It’s that time of year again... Time to start planning the next Pizza Run. I was out a Seneca Rocks last week. Unfortunately, there was a sign on our Pizza Joint that said “Closed for the 2020 season”. So we will need to make other plans for this year. I am open to suggestions if anyone has any recommendations.

If not, there is a restaurant that just opened this year in Franklin WV. It is located right on Route 33 just a few miles before you get to Seneca Rocks. I stopped in and ate there. Food was pretty good. Looks like their only website is on the book of faces, but here is a link if anyone wants to check it out.

    The Hollow Restaurant

@Blackened and I were PM’ing about the route also. Since we won’t be going to the normal Pizza joint this year, what are everyone’s thoughts on changing up the route some? We were talking about possibly doing a WV loop once we get out there. We were thinking about 33 to 28 then back to VA on 250. It is a really fun loop to ride. We are all familiar with route 33. Route 28 is a stretch of long fast sweepers with a nice tree canopy and a mountain stream running along side the road. Route 250 is a twisted pavement lovers dream with banked curves pretty much constant all thru the mountains. Similar to route 33, only tighter curves and higher banks.

only concern I have is the amount of miles this loop will add to our trip. From Staunton VA, this loop is 222 miles. Since we won’t be starting in Staunton, we won’t be closing the loop on that side, so it will most likely add about 120 miles to the route we normally ride for the pizza run. If that is manageable for everyone, Route 250 alone will make it well worth the extra miles!

The loop I suggested above is just as good when running it in the opposite direction. Just another option I thought I would throw out there.

if anyone has any objections to doing this loop, has any other suggestions, or recommendations for a lunch stop, feel free to post it up.

all are invited to join us on this ride, but please make sure you are comfortable with spirited rides and technical twisted mountain pavement. Also, make sure your bike is in good working order with a decent amount of life left in your tires. The roads we will be on are chip seal and they will eat a fair amount of rubber from your tires. This group tends to ride a little fast in the mountains, but we never leave anyone behind. If we spend to much time not moving, we will run out of daylight before we complete the ride.

I am going to Intentionally leave the next post mostly blank so I can edit it with the detail and meet up locations later.

This looks like a fun ride route. I'm up in Centreville, VA, and enjoy riding US Route 33 and especially US Route 250. And I enjoy spirited rides, too.

Unfortunately, I have two underlying health conditions, and I'm reluctant to join the ride due to COVID concerns. That sucks because it's apparent that you guys enjoy aggressively riding through the twisties - something that I enjoy as well. It would've been fun for me to see if I could've kept up with y'all's pace through the twisities.

I very nearly opted for an upcoming Sunday, shorter group ride from Gainesville down VA Route 29 to US Route 211, to New Market, but the likely lunch stop at a burger joint in Harrisonburg was enough to make me back-out due to precautionary safety concerns. Truth be told, though, I am itching for a spirited ride through some twisities.

    Have a fun ride.

    Please post pictures.

Will do. I didn’t realize you were so close. We do this ride every year. I normally organize it. At least the last 2 or 3 years anyway. I’ll add you to the list of tagged members in the future.

I’m not sure if this will make you more comfortable joining us or not, but the restaurant I’m planning to stop at for lunch has outdoor seating. When I was there last week, we ate outside. Would love to have you join us, but I understand if you can’t.

Thanks, Poseidon. I'll keep it in mind and monitor this thread. Eating outside does seem safer than eating inside. And that's a really fun route.

Man, that sure sounds like fun, but I can't get them to lay me off at work again, right now. And you boys being in Va. are too far off for a day ride. Hell, that's almost all the way out to the East Texas border.

Have fun, though. And come home, all of you.

Ride date is still pending, yes? (or did I miss it above)

I will be in OBX from 7/17 thru 7/26. Otherwise let's light em up. :devil3::devil3::devil3:

Yes, date is still pending. That was going to be the next question. Still waiting for comments on the route and if anyone is even interested in doing it this year. Not sure where everyone is at on this?

Any dates that don’t work for either of you?
