Mustang 2 up seat review - 08 Kingpin Tour

5714 21
Why replace a perfectly good stock seat?
I am 6'-0" 265 lbs size 44 waist just to put things into perspective. Like many others I found the stock Kingpin tour seat to be a bit uncomfortable.
I wasequally uncomfortable ordering a $500+ seat online without sitting myass on one. After oogling them for awhile it was apparent that they are very much in demand. With that in mind I ordered one with the thought in mind that if I didn't like it I could just sell it on the forum or on Ebay. here are my impressions after it arrived 1 week after ordering.
1st impression
Opened the box and wow, it was so big! The seat is taller and wider than the stock seat. The fit and finish was superperb. Holding in your hands it has quality written all over it.
Removal and installation
I removed my side covers and the fender trimand removed 6 bolts. The two holding the stock forward seat were either ridicuously tight or they used thread locker (I didn't see any.) The forward seat my be gently pushed forward to install the two replacement bolts. The rear bolted on with minimal effort. Reinstalled the fender trim and my bungee buttons and it looked like a million bucks.
How's the old hiney feel after riding?
I rode yesterday with my brother for about three hours and my butt could not be happier unless Tepurpedic made a bike seat.
Somethings I did not know nowbefore I bought
Because the seat is wider, thicker and taller than the stock seat it puts me up, and forward a bit more. Enough so that I may not have had to install the 2' pullback handlebars but I am very happy with the end result. Strattling the bike I used to sit flat footed and thensome. Now I am barely flatfooted. That dramatic of a difference was a bit unexpected. I am having to get used to my position when coming to stops and even leaning into corners. All in good time though.
This is no doubt the best upgrade that I have done yet. It's hard to improve such a great bike but this is the best value add for the Kingpin IMHO.
My disclaimer: Opinions are like a$$holes, everybodys got one. So take my comments here with a grain of salt.
Here are some pics of the new setup.

Great Review! Thanks for taking the time to post it and the slideshow.

For the height, give it a few weeks and let us know if it settles down a bit.

And...The bike looks great! Enjoy the riding season!

Hey ZZ! You're really going to town fixing that bike up. Fun ain't it? Thanks for the mustang review. I have the almost identical body specs (height, weight) you listed above. I went with a Russell Day-Long this time. I had a Mustang on my Nomad. It was way better than stock. I'll be sure to give a thorough review when I get it back. Build date is June 1st.

Oh, I still think you'll like the pull-back bars.

I have ordered the 2 up mustang seat for my 2010 KP.
I've seen multiple warnings that the mustang seat doesn't work with the KP tour bag (2875326).
I suspect that the height of the passenger seat on the mustang seat interferes with the tour bag passenger backrest on the tour bag.
Has anyone figured out how to make this combo work, 'cause I really would like to have the option of the tour bag?

Ok, it's me, again. I'm going to, also, order the memphis shades batwing fairing for my 2010 KP.

Since I've only ridden bikes with windshields, I'm a little confused as to which windshield to get with it.

Memphis shades says that, with a 5" windshield, the height above the headlight cutout would be 14". I figured out that, sitting on the stock seat, from the top of the headlight to the bridge of my nose is about 17" (I am 5'8" tall).

If I got the 5" windshield, I would be easily able to see over the top, but would it keep the wind out of my face? Or should I get a taller windshield (6" or 7")?

I can't vouch for that because took off the original mounting bracket for the tour pack and installed a Kewlmetal luggage rack. I was able to quickly bolt on the tour pack whenever I needed it.

There is a difference with the new seat, it is a little longer, higher and widerthan stock and this is the reason nothing stock will fit, there was someone on this site I think that did make a new bracket by welding a small addition to stock bracket, I do think this worked for him, if you can't find info for this here then try one of the other sites as I am 100% sure ithas beendone.

The mustang seat sits you back an extra 1 1/2" samegoes forthe passengers pad plus it is a little wider.

Hi

Do as ZZ suggested and get the Kewlmetal Rack. Your tour pack will bolt to it. It will work with your seat and also looks good if you want to go trunkless. You also would be able to use the Mustang backrest for the passenger for a quick hop i believe.

I've got the kewlmetal rack on my 07 KPT, however I have a Corbin saddle. Same theory applies.

Hope this helps.

How about the stock luggage rack....does the Mustang seat work with it?
So thecircle starts all over again, back to puddleducks first question.
No, not without modding the rack.

I am new to the VOG and this thread touches on a subject I have been curious about. I picked up my new 2008 Kingpin last week. It's starting to get cold and I have noticed my seating position has the inner part of my thighs touching the back of the gas tank. Not only does it suck out the heat but I am concerned about eventually damaging the paint. The Mustang seat pushes the rider back about 1.5 inches, is this enough to get my legs off the back of the tank? Thanks for the pictures as I am throwing on the same saddlebags and the seat looks great.

Thanks. I'll look into that option. Which Kewlmetal luggage rack did you use?
BTW, will there be any problem with installing either the hard or semi-hard saddlebags, with the luggage rack?
