It’s time to start planning our Memorial Day Run for this year. We typically meet up Friday morning at MM 0 of the BRP and ride down to Blowing Rock, NC. The area has some of the best riding in the country. If you like twisty mountain roads, this is the area to ride!

In previous years, we have stayed at the Mountain Aire Inn and made it our base camp for the weekend. It is located right off the BRP on Main St in Blowing Rock, NC and is walking distance from restaurants and pubs. Last year there was talk of changing things up a bit. I am open for suggestions, but whatever we decide, we need to do it soon. Hotels in this area book up quick, especially on Memorial Day weekend.

Option 1 would be to make Blowing Rock our base camp again and do day rides on Saturday and Sunday that return us to Blowing Rock at the end of each day.

Option 2 would be to plan the entire weekend’s route with hotels along the way. For example, ride the BRP to blowing rock on friday. Then have a hotel somewhere else, maybe in Robinsville to stay on Saturday. Then work our way back north on Sunday. Then return home on Monday. Advantage would be covering more ground and have an opportunity to ride some different routes that are on the verge of being to far for a day ride from Blowing Rock. Down side would be having to pack everything you bring back on the bike every morning of the trip.

Here is a link to the thread on last years trip. Lots of good info there that would pertain to this years trip if you want to read thru it also. The pictures start on page 13.

Anyone interested in joining us on this ride, please post up. All are welcome, but be prepared for some spirited rides on twisty mountain roads.

I’m with @PJRo on option 1. Option 2 requires being loaded down and being somewhat on a schedule on making that days destination point. Last years runs with meal/fuel stops and returning to base camp was perfect.

Thanks for the invite. Like the two above me, option 1 was a freaking blast last time. I'd be open to option 2 though. I'll see if I can squeeze it in the schedule.

I'm open to what ever. I'm solo this year so traveling is not an issue.

re posting this (from the Vic rally thread originally)

FYI to my Central Atlantic Asshats- I was not able to get Friday (Mem Day weekend) off. I've had it off for the past 5 years in a row- so I'm not really entitled to ***** about it this time. If our little excursion takes place that weekend- It is unlikely that I will be able to attend.

I can consider hauling ass down to BR on Sat. maybe- but it just depends. Other than stating Friday looks like a no-go for me- just too early to say at this point..

I saw this in the other thread. Figured I would invite you anyway. Just in case you decide to haul ass down on Saturday... or... cough cough. :flu1:

    I am currently "Tentative".

The Missus and I just bought a new house and there is going to be a LOT to do! Not to mention after all of the work we have planned and having to carry two mortgages until the old house sells, we're going to be dead ass broke!

Lets see how things play out. There is a few months between now and then so it's anyone's guess what is going to happen.

All that said, I really hope I get to make it down!

Things might work out for me this year. My daughter has vacation time and can come and stay with my wife.

We will be in Spruce Pine for Memorial weekend. Maybe we can get together for a ride. How far is Blowing Rock from there ?
