I like having a regular map to cross check my phones navigation so can better plan stops for cool stuff. I think a thread with updated, clear pictures of each state / area would be handy for others as well. Hopefully @VicVisionBulldog will be able to organize them alphabetically once more is posted, here’s Ohio, come ride our south eastern side, it’s pretty freakin awesome!! The rest of Ohio is pretty ok too

That's right Dean, many times they were free. I picked up a used fold out on in Prudenville this past June. Service/ convienience store did not have any but the nice lady clerk said I have 7 of them and brought me one from her car.

Redundancy with cell phones and GPS's make physical maps almost unnecessary.

Just like reading a book, much better to hold the paper in your hands. I find it easier to chart a path on the paper map then roll it into the GPS. Save a lot of zooming in and out on the cell phone.

I go to our local AAA, CAA in Canada, and get the latest maps for the areas I'll be riding or driving in. Highlight the route, then put waypoints in the Garmin and enjoy the trip. But with GPS, it's garbage in, garbage out. Depends how accurate the maps are from the govt. Years ago, we were heading to Jamestown, ND for the night. Had a motel address entered and about 10 miles north, American Jill said, "Arriving at destination". No, it was a farm field.

Left AZ for my annual trip back east, my Rand McNally road carriers atlas had finally worn out. No problem I thought I've got Google maps and a GPS. Well, much to my chagrin while plotting out a possible route I realized that neither one show a lot of the secondary roads. I like to do some side jaunts and even though I stick to the same general route (east going and west returning) I'm liable to deviate a few hundred miles for variety.
Again I thought no problem I'll just stop at the first big truckstop and get a new printed one. Nope, not happening. Tried Love's and a TA. When I asked the cashier at the TA she looked at me like I'd asked what color underwear she was wearing.
Wandered to Fairview OK navigating by compass points and speed and distance.
Pulled in to the Heritage Inn, while checking in I remarked on not being able to find a road atlas. Went to my room, got settled in and stopped by the office to get a handle on the best place to eat that was nearby.
Pam the mgr. who had checked me in handed me a brand new 2019 road atlas, she had called around and found it at the State Farm ins. office in town and gone and picked it up for me.
Turns out she and her husband ride and were sympathetic because they'd experienced the same. Went back to my room to peruse my newly acquired atlas and there was a knock on the door, she had sent her sister up with a plate of baked chicken, macaroni salad and green beans.
If you're ever in Fairview OK stop at the Heritage Inn guarantee you'll like it.

Sis is married with her old man downstairs. Consequently the food won.
Didn't want to burn any bridges.
Besides her and her old man ride too.

When I am planning a trip out of state I order a road map of every state I plan to ride in.
Then check for the scenic routes and plan accordingly.

I belong to AAA and get all my maps for free. So I use my phone, Garmin, and the maps. Typically only need the phone or Garmin when I am in a city looking for a certain location. When I get a new phone, mine is 8 years old now, I will probably drop the Garmin.

I am not giving up the maps though. The phone and Garmin are too small and don't give a good visual of the big picture for me.

    My last trip.
