I have several long trips coming up over the season (6-12 hours). The last time I took a trip on the Vegas my butt couldnt handle it after about 2 hours, even with rest stops. I'm looking at what would be the best value for getting a more comfortable ride short of buying a new touring seat. Currently considering:

1. Mean City Cycles seat mod. Looking at the Impact Gel + Memory foam mod. Any experience with this for long rides? Bonus is the seat would look stock and no need to futz with storing when not using it. Only downside is bike being down for a week or so while the seat is sent off.

2. Airhawk (or something similar). I know some people swear by these. Wondering if this is a better (more comfortable) option for long rides. Although I dont have bags on the bike so would have to figure out storage when not in use.

3. Other. Is there any other options someone might recommend like a gel pad or anything else i can do to make that seat more tolerable for long rides?

I use an Airhawk on my long trips. Even then I start to get saddle sore after a few hours. This riding season I'm adding a sheepskin to the airhawk. I picked one up at IKEA of all places (in the rugs department), and my wife is going to sew it to the top of the airhawk outer sleeve. But the Airhawk is a huge improvement by itself.

My mustang must be defective. I've had a mustang seat for almost as long as I've had the bike (five years). I can't do more than an hour without it killing my ass. Better than stock no doubt, but I still need more than just the seat.

BBG1500 - 7/13/2007 - 1,516 miles in 22 hours and 37 minutes. Day one.

Trip continued with stops in Utah, Las Vegas, Hoover Dam, (Border Fields State Park, CA Southwestern most point in the lower 48), Tijuana, Sequoia N.P., Yosemite N.P. crossed Hwy. 50 to the Badlands and then rode to Spirit Lake, IA for the Victory Rally.

Full trip - 16 days - 5,741 miles.

SS5000 - 5000 miles in less than 5 days. Done during the 49-10.

First person to ride a Victory in all 50 States - Completed on the 4th of July, 2010.

I am aware of these. Unfortunately can't spend that kind of money at the moment. The Mean City mod is about the most I am able to spend at the moment.

Mean City did right by me, Fixed the passenger seat on my Indian for my wife. Call Allen and talk to him.

They recommended the double decker mod for me but I guess I waited too long and the waiting list is out till May now. I will end up getting an Airhawk for now and hope its enough. Maybe with the extra time I will put in the extra money and get the Iron Butt mod.

I personally hated the airhawk (felt like I was on a waterbed). Found this and never looked back. Ridden 18 hrs straight with no issues

there is a place called Astech seats in Indiana.I have no experience with them but you might call them.they say they can do a drive in while you wait.
