Here I go delivering my last load of my career. Started at 19 yrs old in 74 and finally made it. Kind of a strange feeling today. Never thought you'd live this long and here you are. Happy as hell I did ! I'll be in Arizona in 29 days to begin the final chapter. Time to turn the page ! And I'm hoping everyone looking forward to this day also makes it ! Because it's definitely a long time coming.
Wish you all the best Mike. I see Altom is a petroleum carrier. Ever go in that Citgo refinery in the lower Chicago metro area. Was there once in early 2000s and never met a more disgruntled bunch of employees. Hope your next life in AZ is a blast. Should be getting there in good riding weather being the 100 plus days should be few.

Damn you old fart and didn't realize you are older than me (by not much) and I pulled the pin last year (third time) over last 11 years. So I was able to even spend two of them at Part-time for a gig that doesn't have any part-time.
When I retired for the last time, this time from a private company, HR didn't realize they had a part-time pilot. But it was time to enjoy Family and Hobbies and you do the same my friend. Never wanted to that guy, "ah too bad and he was going to retire..."
Be safe, have fun and keep that bubbly attitude of yours amongst the cactuses of doubters.

Congrats Mike!!!
I retired six years ago after 40 years at Praxair. Never looked back. I dont know how I had time to work now! LOL
And I'm sure you'll be glad to leave NY behind. I left Buffalo 27 years ago. I dont miss those damn winters!
Congratulations.. I took an early retirement for family reasons and moved to another location as well. I lasted about 3 months enjoying the freedom then cabin fever set in and I had to find a part time job just to keep me sane. I also get lots of time on the bike which is great.
It's a new exciting life you're embarking on and I hope your retirement and new location is everything you thought and hoped it would be.
Congrats to getting there! Now start the next chapters on your own time...
I’ve been looking at that goal on the horizon and in my line of work, I’m wanting out in 5-6 years. I’ve seen a lot of things in my career, dealt with a lot of diseases when they were the”next big thing” and come to realize there are fewer days ahead so hopefully I can retire then stay outta everybody’s way.
@NYMike thanks for keeping America running! Enjoy

It just dawned on me that this in fact is a petro hauler! I have been to damn near every refinery in NorCal. Some were bad - some were worse - some were unspeakable! Working with the guys there was always fun for me. I have been in more sh!t than I can tell you! I have been in unit fires, leaking ships, union strikes and more. By far the worst was when the Cat Cracker blew at the old Tosco refinery. 6 guys died in that thing, some of them I knew. I had to go do a damage assessment shortly after. Simply mind blowing to see solid steel twisted like it was cheap plastic. Refineries are very intense places...
