    Not mine.....

    Bob Hope... It's Priceless

He would never be allowed to perform with his acts, today.

Girls, short skirts, off colored jokes, religious Christmas songs, all politically incorrect.

    GREAT GREAT MAN

This will most likely be the very best ten minutes of your day.

hope you all enjoy this great AMERICAN PATRIOT.

Here's a history lesson for today: Alan Alda first saw Bob Hope in WWII.

Until the day he died his Dad never ever missed a Bob Hope special.

Alan remembered him laughing and crying at every show but he never

understood why. Now he knows. A little travel back in time.

Those were the days.....jokes were funny, not disgusting.......and the girls

were dressed to make them look pretty, not vulgar... This is some priceless footage.....

This is a great e-mail. It makes me thankful that I am old enough

to have lived in the time of Bob Hope.

My parents, especially my Mom were huge Bob Hope fans. I remember watching all his Christmas specials during the Vietnam War. The older I got the more I appreciated the classy beautiful ladies in his shows. Class act all the way. My older sister attended Michigan State from 64 to 68 and she took my parents when Bob did a show there in which he donated a lot of the money to some local charitable cause. He and Delores donated much to charitable causes. I met him several times back when I lived in Palm Springs in the late 80s and 90s. He had an iconic home up on top of a large hill at the foothills of the San Jacinto Mtns., with a copper roof kind of mushroom shaped that really stood out and you could see driving down Palm Canyon drive. Steve McQueen's Palm Spring house sat below it in the Southridge Neighborhood. Thanks for the memories 53 Canuck.

I want to preface this by saying that people have always been what we are, BUT.......This was a very special time and a very special group of people (entertainers) who cared more about the people they entertained than themselves. Today there seems to be so much more 'selfishness', an "it's al about me" attitude among too many 'entertainers'. Not all, but many more than there were. It is one of the things I think underlies so many of the problems we have as a society today. Too many (and this includes all of us) now, are only looking out for themselves, even at the cost of someone else.
The 'hero's' today are the quiet folk you almost never hear about. Those sacrificing to take care of their families and friends. Fortunately, there is still a large number of these folk. But they don't get the attention. Nor do I believe most would want it. So many of our children were not taught how to sacrifice, delay gratification and still come out ahead. I was blessed to have parents that showed me in a lifetime of living how this worked, and I gave it to mine as best I could. What some might call a return to moral values I think would look more like a return to sacrifice and hard work, putting some things off for a later time.

Anyway, I was struck by the video how selfless some of the acts of the then entertainers were, in contrast to most of what I see today.
