I'm a new Victory (CCT) owner! Please advise!

Hello all!

My name is Andrew and I bought a 2013 Victory Cross Country Tour (Bronze) in September of 2018! I upgraded from a 2004 Yamaha V Star 1100 (my first bike) and I couldn't be happier so far!

The bike came with a power commander, Lloyd'z timing gear, klock-werk windshield (unknown size), tri-oval exhaust and a 1/4 turn throttle. I'm not mechanically handy but I learn fast. I also have many friends who do know there way around bikes.

My wife rides with me but not all the time. I haven't done a long trip yet but now I have the option with the bigger bike!

I'm on a budget but would like to start a wish list of things to add (if I even need to add anything, but who am I kidding, I would love to add things!)

If you could answer some of my questions that would be great! (I'm 6'2, 310 lbs with a 32 inseam)

Is there any special maintenance I need to know about with the upgrades the previous owner installed?

Should I set the rear suspension for my weight, the wife (200 lbs, shhh she'll never see this) and I, or the middle of that? (I don't want to mess with it all the time)

When the heated grips are on, the throttle sticks. How do I fix that?

Can I get different heated grips? If so, recommendations?

Any recommendation for a bigger brake pedal? (I don't like the peg, would prefer a pedal)

Any recommendation for a heel shifter? (Gotta have it! I don't like the Victory OEM heel shifter FYI)

Any recommendation for different mirrors? Nothing flashy, just can't see much from the left OEM one.

Should I upgrade the headlight? I see one for $95 on Amazon that has good reviews (Amazon.com: PROATUO Chrome Bezel Cree Chip LED Motorcycle Headlight wit High 60w Low 40w Beam for Victory Cross-Country Motorcycle headlight Assembly for Victory Vegas: Automotive)

What size windshield would be right for me? Brand recommendations?

When the gas light comes on, is that the activation of the reserve tank? How much time do I have left to ride?

All weather cover recommendations? (garage kept, just want one for dust and such...)

P.S. How do I upload a pic for my profile and to attach to this thread? I tried to upload a JPG but it wouldn't work! I even resized it to under 4mb...

ANYTHING ELSE YOU'D LIKE TO RECOMMEND? THANKS FOR YOUR TIME!

I just leave my Tour set for the wife and I. Rides fine for me.

Thats normal. Not much to do about it. You can try to loosen the bar cap it helps sometimes.

No clue. Probably.

Ebay has a few options.

No clue. I like my Vic shifter fine.

This is a personal choice. I believe a rider should look over the shield and it should be no higher than the end of your nose. Some like to look through it. You need to sit on the bike and measure from the dash to the point you believe you would like the shield to stop and then buy that proper sized shield to match that. Many, including me like the 7Jurock shields. 7 Jurock

There is no official reserve tank. The light will usually come on for me on my Vision when Im down to 3/4 of a tank.

Nelson Rigg makes a dust cover for storing in such places. I have one and like it for that purpose. They are cheaper than heavy duty all weather covers too.

I have the same headlight in black. It’s brighter and no problems as of yet. I would recommend it.

Check Witchdoctors for that heel shifter. Last I heard he was carrying one very different to the OEM one. It has a much larger pedal for your heel to catch. I got mine from another vendor but they no longer make the model I have.
When the gas light comes on you have less than a gallon left. There is no reserve tank.

It gets stuck wipe open and won't close unless I manually twist the grip away from me. That's normal?

THANKS FOR RESPONDING!
Anytime!!!

Welcome to The VOG and I hope you enjoy your Vic as much as I do.
There's a chart in saddlebag lid for rear shock setting. I run 30-40 psi over recommended for better handling, do not exceed 72 psi. Use a hand pump, no compressed air! The throttle sticks because it expands and rubs the end cap, move the end cap out a little. The other thing you want is Lloydz VM1-DR Cams along with a Dyno tune!

I have the twin to that bike.
In 4 years I've put 60,000 miles on it with just maintenance & a battery.
Happy Riding!

Your tank holds 5.8 Gal. Mine is a 2012 CCT and when the light comes on I have 1.4 Gals left. Stop and fill it a couple of times when the light comes on and you'll know what you have left. I'm good for a solid fifty miles after the light. The gauge is screwy, but consistant. Get used to it and you'll be able to tell where you're at.

There's a table in your bag that tells you where to set your shock for the weight you're carrying. I usually go with less than recommended, and it works just fine. Experiment, but start about ten to fifteen lbs. less than recommended and go from there.

Witch Drs. still a good source for things like oil plug compression gaskets. Spend some time browsing and load your cart. Then double check against amazon/ebay.

Dennis Kirk, Revzilla, Cheap cycle Parts, all good sites to know.

And, Welcome! I'm from down around Houston. Where you at?

Could you explain what a Lloydz VM1-DR Cams and a dyno tune would do to my bike? I'm not that motorcycle savvy so would it be worth my money?

With your current set-up, around 20% increase in horsepower and 15% torque.

I have a 2013 XCT in Bronze Mist like you and have the Baggershield on and you can go from low setting to taller setting in about 1 minute.I get no buffeting with either setting but I do not wear a helmet often.I did have a hard time adjusting to the very narrow heel shifter but over many miles have become accustomed to it.I was riding an 02 Venture before the XCT with a Baggershield and still have a v star 1300 Tour for real hot days and both of those do have a bit better heel shifter but like I said you would get used to skinny Vic heel shifter.

Oh I believe I just ordered one off of Ebay from you. It said Dain for my PayPal payment. Is that you?
