Meh. Nice bikes I guess, if you like that club style. I think they are both nice. BUT... What do ya think, 60 grand? That's my guess. Totally laughable. PASS.

I have wondered something... All this talk about the M8 being unreliable and all, and the Twin Cam issues and basically all other HD engine woes... why wouldn't someone just buy a good used SG / RG or whatever, or take their ride that has a blown engine and put an S&S engine in it? This way you get the Harley without the Harley problems. Am I way off base here? I am asking because I have no experience with Harley ownership and I just got to thinking about that.

...or get a Road Glide/Street Glide and throw a Vic 106 in there ;) Yea, it would take some serious doing, but hey... :)

I have met guys who have done just that.
Just talked to a fellow who bought an '06 Electraglide with high miles for dirt cheap.

He removes the trunk and extra pieces, repainted, and did a 124" S&S and tranny. Bike is killer and he has little into it.
    So cool.

@notaharley I thought so. And the next question I reckon would be... Ca you put serious miles on an S&S engine? I tend to link S&S power to high performance applications where longevity isn't as much of a consideration. I am not sure if there is an S&S engine that is a more touring oriented build that can take a beating and go the distance.

I actually looked into doing that when I was trying to get more power out of my Road King. We came to the conclusion you might as well build a whole new bike around the 106 as it would be cheaper. It was going to take a lot of work to make it fit plus Vic's drive on the right, Harley on the left which meant a whole lot of rear end work too. The shop I was working with said they could do it, just sign a check, they would fill in the amount later.

It would have been cool though.

    Oh, yes.
They have far better engines than the MoCo makes and the baker tranny is superior as well.

I looked at an '08 CVO with 98,000 miles and considered doing this very thing.

Maybe if I sell this Indian I'm riding.
The whole project would be a ton of fun.

S&S, Jim’s is another option. If I were in the market and considering Harley I’d skip paying extra for the 114 or any Screaming Chicken upgrades. If memory serves you can get a Jim’s or S&S 120” for like 5 grand. 140hp, 140tq. And if you blow it up you got a stock 107 you can put back in it.

Yeah, the 350's went with the Vega's. Did that as older teenagers, a buddy and me.

HA! Good on ya! Those were pretty wild. A guy I went to school with built one. It turned out to be quite a project. Lots of rework to the front. I did more watching from the sidelines than I ever did participating in this endeavor, but the result was pretty fun. Anyway...
