i have removed rear fender,disconnected all the wiring,but can not remove the tail light,removed the two nuts on rear light unit ,but no joy is there something i am doing wrong?

There might be some double-back tape involved that you can't see. There is a Hammer thread where a guy did some major changes to a Hammer 8-Ball, and I think he pulled the light off. Send him a message.

I recently had to remove mine to wrap my 2012 Hammer. The light is held down by some tough double sided foam tape. The best way I was able to find to remove the light was to pull up on the light housing and cut the tape the best you can with a razor blade and the light will begin to come free.

Note:
There is a bracket at the peak of the light that holds it down. Be very careful that you do not pull up too far on the base of the light as the tip is very easy to break off.
