Got a Hammer I picked up a couple months ago and just started having a problem. As I'm riding along, my brights will suddenly come on and the engine light comes on. If I kill the engine and restart it goes away for a couple minutes but then happens again.

I plan on cleaning battery terminals, and checking wiring, but wondering if anyone else has had this happen.

    Thanks!

Sounds like frayed or rubbed wires. Check the wires coming out of the headlight bucket. Have heard of some wires getting pinched or having the outer wire jacket rubbed through at the housing. You might be getting a short.

I figured something like that. I'm going to pull the tank over the winter and double check the wiring. The bike is a rebuild, and based on the short time I've had it, the wiring on this bike is not the best. I had to have the entire back end re-wired about a week after I bought it.

You should be able to check this by taking the top of the headlight bucket and not removing the tank. Good luck and report back if you get if sorted out

Hey if its a pinched wire it could start a fire and burn up your bike.
Take a day and look now

Apparently the OP didn't find the issue, bike caught fire and exploded wth him on it.
