Corbin vs. Mustang

So I'm thinking about buying a new seat for my 13 and putting its seat on my 08. The 08 seat I believe is a low and it doesn't have a backrest. While I realize I can add a backrest to it too it is just not exactly what I want. That's why I have been throwing around the idea of getting either the Corbin or Mustang tour seat with a matching backrest.

I love my Utopia backrest but my wife has said on longer rides it can be a bit wide and bother her legs. Both the Mustang and Corbin backrest are thinner so I believe they will bring a bit more comfort to my wife which I would hope could increase her enjoyment of longer rides that I hope we get to take.

My question is how does the Corbin backrest adjust? It says it does but I can't tell how much or how it works. I'm guessing a set screw situation? From the pics it does not appear the Corbin can be adjusted in the fly, is this right?

I've had two Mustang seats with backrest so I know how they work and what to expect.

The things I like about the Corbin are :

-Heated
-Custom
-Hole in backrest for increased air flow
-Can get matching custom trunk pads later
-Tall backrest

The things I like about the Mustang are :

-Heated
-Ready to ship
-Backrest adjust on the fly
-I have had and know the brand

The things that concern me about the Corbin are :

-Time to make custom order
-Adjustability of backrest

The things that concern me about the Mustang are :

-Short backrest (with me mid back injury I have liked the higher support my Utopia offers)
-Doesn't work on A Vision Street

So anybody with experience with the Corbin backrest I would love to hear about them.

What do yall think about the seat I designed? Natural leather top, Gloss Carbon Fiber sides, Black Snake welts, and black icon.

To be honest @VicVisionBulldog Corbin has kinda left a bad taste in my mouth. I loved their ride in service as I got the seat shaped to my liking. The seat is super firm and takes well over 500 miles to break it in but is super comfortable after that (really depends on rider). As you know their seats are heated but you'll be ****ed if that damn thing ever goes out on you (I know from experience... happened on hill country trip). They want me to pay half the price of a brand new seat to get the wiring fixed (new cover, electronics, and heating pads). I haven't had the seat that long (2 yrs) to even justify paying half to get it corrected. Another side note about the Corbin is that their stock seating position was worse for me than the stock seat, but it is most likely different for the Vision. As for the backrest I had them remove the bracket as I could feel it when the back rest was not in plus I would've never used the backrest (most likely would fall asleep if I did). If you do go the Corbin route ask them if you'd be able to get the cooling system installed as they have it for some of the harley seats. I would call Mustang and ask them about the scenario of your heating system going out because Corbin only warrantied theirs for a year, and the life time warranty them claim is just for the foam and seat pan (**** that will never go wrong) I was never informed about the fine print even after asking when purchasing the seat.

I know you ride your scoot everyday even in the rain and I'm sure you've used your heated seats before when it was cold rain. I have done this many times as well but I think that was the cause of my seat to fail just not 100 percent sure as I never had that issue before.

Hopefully this helps with your decision.

@FoFo has a comfy looking seat on his Cross Roads maybe he sell you another brand to look at.

@VicVisionBulldog , I have the ultimate. Seats for Cross Country / Cross Roads / Hard Ball

Not sure if they make one for the Vision. But as @jwfuchs1 said, it's super comfy. It does have the heated option and backrests.

My Utopia is not a quick connect so it's pretty much permanent. Because of my back issues I really want a backrest on both bikes so I am just trying to run through all the options before I commit. I thought it may be a good time to set up the wife and I a bit better than we are now. I have no complaints and if I could say the same for the wife I'd be happier.

I was originally going to add a Utopia to the 08 but thought we may enjoy an entirely new saddle more. Getting a slimmed down one could certainly work but I'm on the fence about the 08 seat and whether I want to use it. So then I started looking at getting a different seat and adding a Utopia to it but the cost was getting close to going with a Corbin or Mustang so it got me thinking. Then when I found out you can easily customize a Corbin seat I thought that might bring a nice look to my Vision. As usually, things snowballed.

Thanks buddy.

I did see the warranty was a year on the heated portion and lifetime on the rest. You are certainly correct about the rain and it is a concern. I found Corbin has rain covers and while they say the seats are fine to get wet it was mentioned that some can fade or the dye can run.

I just think the one I designed looks cool but I certainly would rather a better seat than just a cool seat. I really like the look of the Mustang seat too. Visually I can do either so maybe seeing what Mustangs warranty is on the electronics can help me make my decision. I'll check it out.
@jwfuchs1

Mustang has a one year warranty on the entire seat.

I would say the seat cover is a waste of money unless you got custom stitching color like mine. I did have red stitching and now it's a shade of pink but not to worried about it. The only benefit I see from using the seat cover is that the corbin retains water really well and if gets wet during the day while you're at work you can get a damp ass on the way home. I've had no complaints about that seat until now. I just wish it wasn't so damn expensive to get it repaired kinda of a bummer.

They kinda said that in the seat cover description.

I really like the way the backrest looks. It looks as if it would give nice upper support, be more comfortable for my wife's legs, AND my gun wouldn't dig in the side of it like some do with the Utopia.

I just wish some body had a Corbin backrest so they could tell me how adjustable it really is. I'll have to go searching.

Very think of just a modification from someone like Sergeants?
@VicVisionBulldog If you do end up going with the corbin get the asphalt material on the sides. I have to say that stuff is damn neat scratch proof.

And why not support the blue along with it.

You can also get custom stitching in the seat area is you so desire.

Well if the police were treated better the line would be thicker.

You can't even go to work and stand in the parking lot any more. You have to be on 24/7 and that is exhausting.
