It doesn't do that because the federal government cannot in any way control state governments and how they address liability. What it does is threaten to withhold federal grant money. IMHO a bill like that would never pass. I don't even think its a real bill yet.

Think of the politics when a city says we need Federal help with this out of control crime but by law they can't help us because of a state law.

That was damn fine shooting, considering the adrenaline and distance!

That was either a dead eye shot or lucky. Either way, the correct outcome happened.

So I had a great day on Saturday down at the beach hanging with some friends and the dogs. We didn't leave until about 8pm and I didn't get home until about 10pm. I am unloading the truck and when I opened the door to the house I knew something was terribly wrong. It was hot and the thermostat was saying it was 82 in the house. I get unloaded and start checking the system.

I find the interior system seems fine and it's the condenser. I removed the panels and top to check an the connections and components. Everything looked fine so I put it back together and figured either the fan motor or the compressor was DOA.

Knowing I couldn't get it fixed and it's Saturday night I headed to Walmart and was going to pick up a portable AC for my bedroom. Well I guess since covid they are no longer 24 hours and closed at 11pm which I missed by about a half hour. At this point I knew I was SOL for the night so I just went home and took a cool shower to cool off.

I'm then laying down and thinking about options. It was now almost 5am and out of desperation I turned the system back on and it came to life. I couldn't believe it. It started cooling and I figured I would take whatever I could get. It has been working ever since but I'm still getting it checked out because it's not exactly cooling like it did.

With that I decided to still buy a portable AC. Figured it may be a money saver in the long run running it in my bedroom and not cooling the entire home down where I like it with the big system. Also the unit I found had heat so if we have another freeze event I have yet another heater ready.

I checked Home Depot, Lowe's, and Walmart and Walmart ended up winning out having a 10k BTU unit that had heat, a remote, and app control. $518 was the ticket and I paid online to pick it up later that day. The order claimed it would be pulled and be ready by 8pm. 7pm gets here and I still haven't got the email telling me it's ready so I just went. I figured there must be an issue and wanted time to find a replacement if needed. I got there and told them what I'd done and asked if I could just pull it myself and expedite things. It seems because I paid using PayPal credit the order had not yet been sent to the store so it was never pulled. But also since it was not sent to the store they couldn't push it through.

What I had to do was cancel the online order and buy it in store. Not exactly what I wanted but I got it which is the important part. I figured something was up without getting any email but it would be nice if their system was smarter.

At least if my central system has another issue I'll be good in my room. My AC guy will hopefully be able to get to me in the next couple of days.

So far this unit works well. It's about as loud as you would get from a large window unit and honestly with my tinnitus I don't mind at all, and it's not bothering the wife. It's working well.

Anybody run a unit like this while having central air? Seems many people do it from what I read today so I guess I'm not crazy for having the thought to still buy it even if it was more of a just in case item now.

The install was easy as was setting up the app. Not exactly what I wanted to drop money on but it's a nice peace of mind item.

I guess it's true that ACs do only go out on the weekends.

Also I found my electric cooler I bought awhile back works well in the truck but I need to get a good inverter. Being plugged into the truck alone worked but the cooler thought it was draining my battery and turned off a couple times. My battery was me than up to the challenge and was not down at all so I would just restart it but I figure a inverter will put a stop to that. I'm thinking of going straight to the battery with it and installing under the passenger seat.
