Where is the whole video? I can see by the title what side the writer is on.

How could the officer have known the driver was pregnant?

Why when the officer got so close to her did she not figure out he was serious and she needed to stop?

I am all for people getting to a safe spot to pull over but in the end you can not wait for what you think is the perfect spot?

Could this be poor actions on the officers side? Certainly, but I need more info before making such a call.

Here is some rough numbers on the distance traveled. I did not see an exit tracing the route. The issue is the person driving the vehicle being stopped does not get to have complete control over the stop. A good indication the officers wants you to stop is his siren is on. If it gets behind you with lights and sirens but turns the siren off when you slow and turn on your hazards.....they are probably good with what you are doing. If the siren stays on.....PULL OVER!

it wasn’t a high speed pursuit, he wasn’t chasing a convicted felon with a firearm, I would have liked to of seen other options deployed, It gets murky when on one hand the person wants to feel safe especially being pregnant ( we should actually applaud someone who wants to protect unborn children)

2 miles or 10 miles she did the right thing by putting on the hazards ...during the driving test we are only told to pull over when safe to do so.... not more than 2 1/2 miles and we will flip your car!

    it’s all about the optics!

Problem is as the stopping officer you really don't know who is in the car. I'm sure he didn't know it was a pregnant female or that she was trying to make an exit. If he did I'm sure he would have done things different. Unfortunately we start thinking the worse in these situations and wonder what the person is doing, or planning. I've had plenty of high speed pursuits start off very slow. Even using signals and such.

I "drove" that stretch on Google maps and it's nothing but walls.

Like I said before if the officer is getting that close with their siren on you need to pull over. If they back off and turn the siren off they are probably good with you going to the next exit.

As pursuit statutes usually work there is no minimum speed one must go or distance for that matter. It's just a failure to stop within a reasonable time at a reasonably spot. She may not have liked the shoulder but as a driver you do not get to fully dictate where the stop occurs.

Not what I would have done? Well first I don't ever want to stop on a big road..... My back is proof of what can happen. So if it were me and I knew that stretch had all wall and no exits I would have trailed the vehicle until we were approaching an exit and then light them up. Not that this always works. Plenty of people are stupid and pass the exit and still stop on the shoulder. Then I've had some real dummies that even when you are yelling over the PA for them to continue and exit they just sit there and force me to get out.

Also one thing about a pit. They are not designed to flip vehicles and that is not the desired outcome. I assure you the officer did not do that on purpose. In all actuality she probably caused the flip by not knowing how to counter steer in the skid.... Or she simply lost control and hitting the wall made her flip. Which if that's the case the wall failed her because they are designed to not flip vehicles as well..... But this is hitting them at an angle and not head on like she appeared to do.

Overall I think this is a horrible accident where the facts coming out after the fact make it seem really terrible. You just have to realize it was not the intentions of the officer to have it go down that way.

I also want to see the entire video and hear the radio traffic. It's odd to me they are not showing the entire thing and I'm guessing that's because it's better for their story to cut what they want to use.

Agreed there are pieces to the story that haven’t come to light yet, But the public isn’t informed the same as the officers, she was looking for an exit to get off the main roadway and feel safe, since the public was not yet at danger Allowing her to get to the exit would also give the officer more time to call for extra assistance... At least allow the driver a chance to get to a turn off or exit before extreme measures are applied?
