To me these long break-in periods are bs. I take a short spin to get it hot, then shut it off to let it cool down to give it a heat-cycle. From there let it warm up again and don't be afraid to punch it and get off of it to let the rings seat good. Several SHORT acceleration bursts and let off will get the rings seated. Then ride it "normal", just no long WOT runs, until you've got a tank of fuel gone. After that ride it like you stole it!
The guy did make a good point about the other parts needing to be broke in and for the rider to get used to a new bike. Now if this was a rebuild on a bike the owner had for years; it would be good to know you don't have to do it the old fashioned way anymore.
