'13 XC - 100% power loss on hwy

Hi from Toronto Ontario

There's threads on this issue but nothing current. I have a '13 XC all original with Magnum headlight and the Victory / Scorpio alarm.

Yesterday at 65mph on a 6 lane highway I had a complete power loss *zero power to everything* - pucker factor anyone?

Victory corporate was no help, the dealer says pay $150 to scope it (no guarantees) - I'm just about to complain to Transport Canada for a recall...

Threads say replace the 40amp breaker - has anyone done this and continued to have issues? I talked to Scorpio in Arizona and they say their system can't shut off the bike. So the breaker sounds good - but is it faulty or is there a surge issue tripping it?

I'd really appreciate if some of my wingers down South - who have more experience than my area dealers - can help me out!

Thanks in advance & stay safe

Check battery connections and change 40amp breaker. Happened to me when my bike was new a few times. Changed the breaker and hasn't happened since (40,000 kms)

Thanks for the reply. Did u waterproof the breaker? I've been told epoxy is a good idea. Also - how important is torquing the terminals on the battery? Hard to believe I have to do this to a 2yr old bike but I won't give my dealer a blank cheque either...
Change the breaker. You can get it from NAPA for a reasonable price. Fairly common issue
Though I seriously doubt the battery cable is this problem. These bikes are hyper sensitive to battery contact. I check battery connections on every service

Hi - thx for your reply. Unfortunately it didn't. It came with an extended power train but not full coverage. My dealer even suggested that perhaps I have mice in my garage that ate the wiring harness... (Uh... No...)

Anyways, I've spent a lot of time today digging on this issue and I picked up the breaker from Napa - I'm going to try replacing it tomorrow. Great 10min video on youtube on this. I'm also going to take the battery and the old breaker and have them load tested. If the breaker is the issue I'll have it sent to Transport Canada for testing.

If Victory has a design issue, perhaps they can stand up, back their product and provide a retrofit... I investigate a lot of vehicle collisions at work and I don't relish the idea of some guy getting smoked on a highway because his bike quit on him over a $13 dollar part... Cheers

Hi kevinx - thx for sharing. Totally agree with your recommendations - I picked up the part from Napa today and will replace it tomorrow. Wish I had a lift - my chiropractor will love seeing me after this. I'll definitely clean the terminals and torque down / use some dielectric grease too. Thx again
As you are new here if you get so time do a search on here and you will see the mothership is not too forthcoming with recalls for anything

Recall? Victory no speaka da Recall! And when they do - they sit on their butts til they are good and ready to think about it. Then, maybe they will get the replacement parts out or maybe they won't! Good bike - not so good Customer Service!

Buy an extra one and throw in your bag.
Ok - want to make sure no one thinks this was my 'one and done' post.

I picked up the breaker from Napa and dismantled the lower left side of the bike. A lot of grime on initial inspection. The red plastic cover was deformed - I suspect from heat - only source I figure is from the breaker itself(?) - the boot is of poor design and certainly doesn't protect the breaker - at best only the two posts. The breaker itself was covered in grit - likely carried in my water - and a lot of grime. Both terminal connections and each battery post were scrubbed clean, dielectric grease applied and connections beyond tight.

Hope this does the trick. Started on first try; test drive today when it stops raining. More to follow...

Well said. I've read some strings here that a few riders experiencing this issue doesn't make for a recall - but it seems a little more widespread than that. If it's widespread - I'm mean we're talking about total power loss on a highway - with the potential for deveatating consequences - you'd think someone would recognize fixing this issue is cheaper than the alternative. On the other hand - if it's not a widespread issue - you'd think that the dealer would have at least heard of it and wouldn't suggest a two hour charge for a diagnostic that won't reveal anything...

Will seriously consider pursuing this via Transport Canada... They investigate safety issues up here and have the ability to order recalls...
Do you have a part # and price from NAPA on the breaker??

thanks

Sure do. The part # is 782-3116 - good in Canada and the U.S. I paid $15 tx incl Cdn - I believe it's approx $10 USD. I test rode the bike today and all seems okay...

Okay... 50km ride after a light rain this afternoon. About 10degrees and damp conditions. Bike started up on first try, iPhone plugged in / music on and grip heaters flashed up too - to draw max amperage. Happy to say - no issues. Will be taking it for a day ride tomorrow so stay tuned...

Stopped at Napa and picked one up last night. Just threw it in the bag in case I need it before I do my next maint cycle. $3.69 plus tax. You would think Ma Vic could have sprung for a better relay.
Replacing that relay along side of the road is not something that you want to do .
About all I want to do along the side of the road is stop to take a pee. Actually never took one, always left them.
