Ok, this may be a silly question, but does anyone have any insight for getting more than about 170 miles on a tank of gas before having to fuel up?

Getting 40 mpg is great, but with only about 3.5 usable gallons, it doesn't get ya too far before having to fill up.

Any secrets at all....anyone anyone, Bueller, Bueller...

Here's a few photos of Rollin's auxiliary fuel tank...although (warning: Moderator "disclaimer" coming next) if you decide to go this route, be very careful and do your homework as hauling a additional fuel on the bike could bring its share of issues. Possibly Rollin will chime-in to let you know what safety measures he instituted in the design of this fuel storage system.

The good news is that since you'll be riding, you'll probably won't have to deal with Airport Security. But if you get pulled over, you better have a good explanation!

The tank is made by Tour Tank. The one that I added is 2 gallons. I only use it on longer trips.
This tank has the optional ground strap and vent with the check valve.
Like Andy says be careful. Don't exceed the capacity of your luggage rack, use a ground strap to reduce static electricity and be sure it's vented properly.
