I've been researching exhaust options for my new magnum since it sounds like a baby stock.
As I've been researching options I've noticed that 90% of the options are slip on only. All my prior bikes I've done full systems which required some sort of fuel tuner such as a Power Commander. For slip on exhaust upgrades is a power commander required or is the change to the air flow so little that there is no need?
Is there anything else I should know or be aware of if changing exhaust? I've been searching on the forum and found a lot on when you go all out and upgrade performance cams, filters, timing wheel (which I will most likely do at some point) but not a lot of just exhaust. I've seen talk on 02 sensors removal but I'm not sure the purpose.
I'm not sure what exhaust to go with yet and will take recommendations. So far I'm leaning towards V&H, D&D or RCX. Looking for best mix of sound (deep bass more important then extreme loud) and performance.
You can switch out your exhaust without using a PCV.
But if you are going to do that (if money is not a problem) I would get Lloydz Air Filter, Timing Wheel and also have them installed with the exhaust, and put the PCV on.
The exhaust just depends on what you are want to lean towards. I have Vance and Hines High Outputs on my 2016 Magnum. I really love the V&H; this is coming from a guy that use to have Bassani on his bikes. However, V&H will have the tone that you will look for; and it will also get the attention of people in cars if they do not see you. If you want to replace the complete exhaust without slipons you can go the direction of:
2-into-1 (Bassani)
2-into-1 Hot Rod Pipe (Trask Performance)
2-into-2 (Freedom Performance)
I wish I knew this the first time when I was looking. This would have helped with just replacing out the entire stock.
When you have the PCV put on; make sure you get the O2 Optimizers from Dyno Jet. This way you do not have to unplug your O2 Sensors.
Just added Vance and Hines 4.5 High Outout slips ons..Seems to be running lean just under 100 miles. I hear I can unplug o2 sensors for quick fix until I can get all the air/fuel management goodies..True ??
A PCV is good anytime. Even stock you can get the bike out of Its lean condition in which it came. It would run cooler. Problem is every time you make a change. The PCV would need to be re mapped.
This would be done best on a Dyno by a competent Victory tuner. At $300 a pop this makes a very expensive but accurate fuel metering device.
Get your slip ons and run a while. This is the only performance item you have to figure as to which one (brand) you want. V&H's Tri-Ovals D&D's.
Timing wheel , Lloyds filter and drop in cams are what most guys do to get around 116/116 hp/tq.
Either do it all with a PCV and dynotune or just ride around with your slips until your ready.
Key word here is "tuned "
If you are doing all but cams then Lloyds VFC3 will get you good. Just not good enough as a PCV tune.

Added the pipes last Friday. Rode around back roads fo about 50 miles. Got home noticed left pipe tip turning a goldish color, and high fuel fume smell. Unplug o2 sensors for quick fix..?
On bikes newer than 2015 you cannot just unplug the O2 sensors (you will get a check engine light). What you need is O2 eliminators.
Unless you do major engine work, slip-on mufflers will outperform a full exhaust.
Lloydz air filter is cheap. Lloydz Timing Wheel is cheap. Slip-ons are cheap if you shop around. Power Commander can be had for under $300. That set-up, dyno tuned, will run great and get great mileage. 20% increase in performance for under $1500 and it will run cooler and be far more satisfying to spend time on.
It's only money... you get paid again next week...
Bought a new magnum end of august put vance and hines high output exhaust on got 3000 miles on it runs great as is once in a great while it will pop on decel other then that no problems
i have the bassani whit the lloyds aire filtre timing wheel and fuel maneger and an under drive pulley it is not the same bike at all sound and low end power
