I have a high pitched noise coming from around the gas tank area. I think it might be a vent of some sort, but not sure. Anyone else have this, know what it is, have a fix?

Ok was able to narrow down the location of the noise it is near the back of the tank right before the seat, sounds like pump running with a height pitch squeal coming from it.

    Your fuel filters need replaced.

I've been searching on the forum about this as well with no luck. Usually only hear it at around 50 mph and up. I figured it was wind going thrue somewhere by the fairing causing the whistling? I have a 2010 that I purchased used last August. I now assume that this must be a common problem. Hopefully someone has a solution!

I would hope the fuel filters on a brand new bike would not need replaced. Just had 500 mile service done.

I hear this too. Second ride of season after oil change and adding madstad. I thought maybe I hear different engine noise now that my ears aren't full of turbulent wind noise!

When you hear this noise if you pull in clutch does it go away?

Could it be the belt and you hearing at low speeds but at 50mph you don't hear it.

Belt could be miss aliened witch is very common with Vic's.

It could be coming from front pulley.

Put passenger on bike and have them listen four ears are better then two

No mine makes the noise all the time. As stated before if I put my ear on the rear of the tank the noise is right over the fuel pump area. Just started wearing my half helmet, so I assume its been making this noise since new.

Get dealer to pull tank and see what they can find

If you hear it...open the gas cap. see if this helps. Maybe a pinched vent tube

Took the bike into the dealer, the tech heard the noise and said it was the fuel pump. He then took me over to another new bike, and low and behold it had the same noise, it didnt seem as notciable, but the bike also had and upgraded exhaust system on it. I would assume each bike will vary on how loud the noise is, and maybe if it is still annoying me, I will replace the unit at some point and time and hopefully get a quieter one.

Turn up the radio that will get rid of all the racket you hear. [IMG]

Well, now that I've found my user name and password. I can post again.
I actually have the same "problem". After I've done my oil change and pre-season maintenance and took the bike for the first ride, after about 100km, I started noticing a high pitch noise coming somewhere from what seams under the gas tan.
I can hear at at idle, or with throttle up. The noise stays the same. I've tried to open a gas cap, nothing helps.
I know, I know I can and should take it to a dealer, but since I live in Ottawa and the only Victory dealer I have is a wheel sport, consider that being useless. I've had no good experience with them at all on all 3 victories I've had.
So any words of wisdom are highly appreciated.

I bought my Cross Country in May. I have been dealing with the "whine" ever since. Your comments are EXACTLY what I am dealing with - went through the open gas cap thing, tried riding in hot/cooler weather, monitored it to see if it was different with a full or half tank of gas etc... I have had the bike at the dealership two times (I believe five days total) for them to find the source of the whine. First at the 500 mile maintenance check where they told be it might be a "break-in" thing, and second at 2000 miles after the break-in for them to analyze it a second time. They told me that they could not find the source of the whine. Since it is a constant whine - never stops, always at the same frequency coming from the gas tank, I told them it had to be the fuel pump. They said no. They brought me over to listen to another bike that had the whine. While the bike had the whine, it was much quieter than mine and you really had to listen to hear it. The whine is so annoying, I started shopping for a new bike. I believe the only other option is for me to purchase a new fuel pump and install it myself.

Sadly there is not much the dealer will do concerning this(fuel pump is functioning normally). I have since upgraded my exhaust system, and the noise is much less noticeable. I can still hear the whine but with loud pipes and my hi flow air filter it is much less noticeable. I figure when I have to replace fuel filter I will pay to have the fuel pump replaced to see if it helps.
