I'm looking at some of the Zumo GPS's. The newer ones have bluetooth capabilities. Is it possible to connect them to the Magnum's stereo via bluetooth and forgo wiring it in?

I'm comfortable doing the wiring if necessary. Just trying to see if I really need to. If I do, all the info I will need is in this thread.

    Garmin Zumo 590LM Install

Great write up on the install btw.

I've been looking at GPS's on Amazon. Does anyone know if there is enough of a difference between the Zumo 590 and the 595 to justify the $350 price difference? Hard to believe there is a $500 +/- price increase for a motorcycle GPS vs comparable car GPS !!!

Magnum already has Bluetooth. I'm just not sure if the Bluetooth in the GPS units are send, receive, or both. Also not sure if it is set up on the Magnum to pause music for directions or not. I was hoping to know if I need the harness or not before ordering. I figured there has to be someone on here running a newer Zumo GPS on a Magnum that would know...

The phone will pair with the Magnum, but some GPS's have a one way bluetooth connection. They allow other devices to connect to them, but they have to be hardwired to the bike. That allows you to bluetooth your music to the GPS, then it sends it thru the wiring harness to the stereo. I'm not sure if the newer Zumo GPS's are like that or if they can connect to the stereo via bluetooth. If they do, I'd be curious to know how well they work thru a bluetooth connection.

Any info from someone who has theirs connected this way would be great.

    Thanks

Anyone have a Zumo 590 or 595 on a Magnum? Am I really breaking new ground here?!?! I figured someone had to have tried connecting one via bluetooth by now.

First off, Happy New Year Poseidon, I was wondering if you got an answer to your question yet? I purchased 2016 Magnum (OCT 5th) in the paint that yours is. My plan is to ride out to visit AZ to visit family at the end of Myrtle Beach bike week. I had the same thought as you, bluetooth GPS instead of buying an audio cable if I don't need on.

I will have an answer for you as soon as I get all the mods completed. I had already pulled the speakers out for the upgrade when my GPS arrived. I'm hard wiring it in since the dock comes with the GPS. I have the plug on order from digikey. Should come in this week.

Spoke with owner of Coastal Victory in Murrells Inlet SC today. He told me at least 2 people have asked about GPS thru bluetooth on Magnum and he believes it should work. In other works they don't know either. I'm not in a hurry so I'll wait to see how it works out for you. Good Luck.

I use my google maps on my cell phone at the same time Im using Pandora, all thru blue tooth on my magnum, the volume of the music automatically lowers so that the maps voice can say the next turn, then the music softly turns back up! really like the magnum stereo!

Fading from one audio source (GPS) to another (Music) is a function of your cell phone tho, not the the Magnums bluetooth. All the Magnums blue tooth is allowing you to do is connect your cell phone to it.

Some GPS units allow other devices to connect to them but have to be hard wired to the bike's stereo. For example, on bikes without bluetooth, some will hard wire the GPS to the stereo and then bluetooth music to the GPS unit so the music will play thru the stereo. Other GPS units are able to connect to the stereo using bluetooth, but other devices can not connect to the GPS. We are trying to figure out if the GPS can connect to the stereo using bluetooth, and if so, can a cell phone be connected to either the stereo as well or possibly to the GPS unit negating the need to hard wire the GPS unit.
