New VOG Prospect in Texas
Ok, I'm a wee bit early to be classified as a Victory OWNER, but I also know that these forums are massive gold mines of information. Rather than just lurk anonymously, I thought I'd better join, in case I actually have a question or two.

I'm Robert, and I live up in the Dallas, Texas area. I currently ride a 2003 BMW K1200LT. In addition to week long riding vacations, I also ride in competitive drill teams (both formation riding and obstacle). So, while the BMW has been an awesome bike on the week long rides and it's pretty classy in the formation drills, it's a bit cumbersome on the obstacle course. Besides, it's just time for a new bike, and I'm too lazy to rationalize it any better than that.

I've got it narrowed down to the Vision or the Cross Country Tour, leaning heavily towards the XCT. I just like the styling and the feel of the ride. I just need a few more coins in the piggy bank before I can pull the trigger. I'm hoping I can get something done this year, but definitely by the end of 2013!

So, how do we kick this off? Do I ask which is better: Vision or XCT? Or do I just go for it and ask which oil I should use? devil2

Thanks in advance for the advice, insight and support. I love these groups!

Buy the XCT

Vision's are for the elite.

Ride both and make the choice that best fits your riding style.

You can't go wrong with a Victory.

Both are great...It's all about what you feel the best with. I will say of all the Vic's I have owned. The Vision was the best. My better half liked it the best also.

Look in the mirror, laugh at yourself..it's healthy!

Welcome aboard! I'm pro cross country because I have one, but the vision is the best touring bike I ever rode. Can't ride one though because I don't have a "harem" like Treckwolf164 (see his picture) LOL! Ride them both and make up your own mine.

Wlecome from Ohio. The beauty of a Vic is that you can test drive whatever you want to form your own opinion. Both are great bikes. Not as nice as a Kingpin, but nice none the less.
Thanks,
Rob

Since both of these bikes have quite a few differences, it might just be easier to answer the oil question!

My short answer will be that for the obstacle course, the Cross Country might score a point or two ahead of the Vision. For the highway, I'd prefer a Vision.

Spend some time with your Dealer taking test rides and report back to us your findings.

You've no doubt noticed the motto, "It doesn't matter what you ride" at the top of the page. I think that's basically true, but in my opinion, riding a Victory, any Victory, makes you just a little smarter and a little better-looking than everyone else on the road.

Ride them both, or ride everything in the stable. You really can't lose any way you go.

If you haven't done it yet I suggest watching the videos of the Victory Police motorcycles. You'll see XC's running the same courses as BMWs and HDs and I'm sure that with your background with the drills you'll really appreciate the way these guys handle these big bikes. You should be able to find them with a google search of "Victory Police Motorcycles"; the majority of the videos are on their website.

Welcome from El Paso, rode them both and bought the XC. The XCT was not available yet at time of purchase.

I owned both a Vision and a Cross Country which I added the trunk to. IMHO the Vision is the better bike especially when fully dressed. The XC with trunk was very top heavy and the Vision with its fixed fairing felt better during low speed turns.

Welcome aboard.

^ That post almost made it sound like I knew what I was talking about.

A good rider can overcome marginal equipment. However, even the best equipment can't overcome a marginal rider.

I love the irony of you telling a BMW rider that Vision Riders are for the elite! Most of my friends ride the Harley Ultra Classic. When we're parked together, a stranger will see the bikes and assume that the guy riding the Beemer is Mr. Moneybags. The Beemer is a whole lot cheaper than the total cost of those Harleys, but that seems to be a well kept secret. So, maybe I should get the Vision just to keep my Mr. Moneybags Elite image when I ride with those guys. wink

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome. This community reminds me much of the guys that I depended upon to help me with the K1200LT. I am by no means mechanically inclined, but the forum support helped me do several upgrades on my own, as well as a few more involved mechanical repairs and maintenance issues.

I did upload a few pictures of the K1200LT to a photo gallery (aptly named The Beemer) for those that are interested.

Now I just have to count the days when I'm creating the gallery called The Vic!

Thanks again for the welcome.

Actually, I have watched those. Those guys know how to move those bikes around! In addition, I've done test drives of both. Even the Vision is remarkably nimble and responsive, especially compared to the K1200LT. The Vision and the Cross Country were very fun to sling around the parking lot.

My mentor in our riding group is a retired motor cop. He showed me a few basic drills to get me skill level up, but the most important thing was simply committing to hours of very focused practice. Nothing beats time in the seat.
