Has anyone here upgraded just the speakers on a Cross Country with the stock 40 watt stereo, and if so, did it make a substantial difference in clarity at highway speed? I know you won't get huge bass without a major power bump, but I'm really only looking for a more articulate sound, and from what I've heard and read, the Vic electrical systems seem to get real moody when you start making demands on them. I've already had a voltage regulator changed at about 200 miles. Also, just with the stock speakers I often get rattles and buzzes in the fairing. Any more power and things might start falling off!

Don't know about the Vic speakers yet, but when I upgraded speakers only on my Street Glide to the Harley "Boom" speakers, there was a significant increase in clarity and volume, all across the range.
I did the Polks, better bass but not as much volume as the stock head doesn't have enough power to push them at higher volumes. I did the Vic Kicker upgrade speakers, better clarity but not as good of bass as the Polks. I then did an amp and 6.5" speakers, Hello now we're cookin! If had it to do over, would do the amp first, the stock radio just doesn't have the power to make anything happen. The Rockford Fosgate PBR300X4 has 2 or 4 channel capability, size of 2 packs of cigarettes, mounts directly to the upper left fairing support using 2 pre-drilled and tapped holes. I wired it myself in an afternoon, never wired an amp in my life. No remote wire needed, turns itself on and off sensing current in the speaker wires, quit playin and do it otherwise save your money.

I had the KICKER Premium speakers installed. They sound amazing. I can hear them perfectly at highway speed. A few bucks but definatley worth the considering

I to did the kickers but am not at all satisfied with them and my thoughts were that they are definately gonna need more juice to sound right so now thanks to bikendad's post i know what amp I can add to liven things up a bit. Bikendad where did you run your amp ground and did you come straight off the battery with the power or is there another fused power source somewhere?

Went directly to the battery for the power, use a star washer so it doesn't loosen. Ran my ground to the frame, there's a pre-drilled hole just ahead of the front cylinder head on the left side that works perfectly. Be sure to scrape all the black coating off the aluminum frame so you get a good ground. I only have the gain set on 5 and the speakers will blow you off the bike at 80-90 mph with the volume on 10-12, usually turn it down to 8 or 9. I do use the speed volume adjust set at low.

Does anyone here know exactly which Kicker model is used for the upgrade?
I have the Kicker PS5250 in the dash of my Vision with the stock head unit and to me they sound great.

I have been thinking about this for a while, riding today it seems like once the volume is anything over 15 it's distorted. Needs a little something.

With the original stock speakers I never go over 11 or 12 because of distortion. If I could get anywhere near 15 that would probably be plenty for the highway. It's definitely capable of being loud enough! I might go up to a 6.25" speaker if I can get an adapter kit.
