Free exhausts
I just removed the end cap of my exhaust pipes and removed the baffels, as instructed by bad250 (thanks for the info) What a great sound. I started my Road King up and the Cross country, they were real close in the noise rating. My wife thought a Hercules C-130 flew over head, LOL. Loydz cams and power commander next up and then the dyno for results.

I was always under the impression back pressure prevented the motor from burning the valves.

Running the bike through stright or open pipes won't hurt it ?

I have some friends that are motorcycle mechanics and motor heads and ride all different makes of bikes, not one of them said there is a problem with this setup. So I guess we will see when I take it out of the gargae on April 1

I believe it's only when you change the air intake with it,then you need some sort of fuel tuner.

do you get any popping when letting off the throttle, did you weld the end back on or just leave it off? post some pics of it if you can ive been thinking about doing this also

Two things here, first, gutting the tailpipe only reduces the back pressure a little, the main header pipes still have a honeycomb plug, I think it's a cat, others disagree but the net is you aren't reducing the back pressure enough to hurt the motor. Second, any change to the intake or the exhaust on a fuel injected bike requires a remap or a fueler to compensate, PERIOD. Some may be happy with the way it runs without adjustment but it's not optimal.

FYI, I can pretty much guarantee the performance of a cross bike with a gutted muffler and no fuel adjustments will be lower than stock. It will sound better but it will perform worse.

Bigshot I've run it the garage a little, I have not had any popping as of yet. I had the end re-welded and I cut off the tail pipe section, so as not to see it. I'm putting a power commander in it shortly and then hopefully It will be dyno'd. This bike will still run with any stock HD out there, can't wait till April.I didn't take any pics bad250 has some on his posting.
